Stephen Colbert announces presidential candidacy.

If you don't vote for Stephen Colbert, then you're a terrorist.

There are no Tacomas in WoW! :Q

This post has nothing to do with WoW.  Just throwing that out there.  I'm actually going to rant about music.

I'm looking forward to Nightwish next weekend.  They're pretty much the best of their genre (orchestral rock) in the entire world, and that's still true after their lead singer was kicked out and they got a new one.

Some number crunching real quick... this is their new album "Dark Passion Play", which means nothing but still sounds cool.

# 1 Germany
# 1 Finland
# 1 Switzerland
# 1 Hungary
# 1 Croatia
# 3 Czech
# 4 Sweden
# 5 Austria
# 5 Netherlands
# 5 Greece
# 6 France
# 7 Norway
# 14 Italy
# 24 Canada
# 18 Denmark
# 25 UK
# 36 Belgium
# 42 Australia
# 50 Poland
# 62 Ireland
# 84 USA

So as you can see, the USA apparently can't hear great music because we have our heads firmly lodged up the arses of artists like Kanye West and Green Day, but the rest of the world has the right idea.

The other band I'm obsessed with is Nightmare (Naitomea), who hail from the land of the rising sun.  I really hate J-pop just because every tool in the world listens to it, but the way the Japanese language sounds draws me to J-rock.  There's a way that the syllabic way they speak makes the lyrics a lot more powerful, even if I only understand it half of the time.  And sometimes they throw in english words which are worth a laugh.  Anyway, I'll share two clips I found.

This is Gianism Shichi.  Nightmare seem to have an entire handful of "Gianism" songs (spelled differently every time I see them), and this one is probably the best out of all of them.  The guitar playing changes from hard (0:13 to 0:35) to a trickily playful, upbeat dual guitar segment (0:35 to 0:55) featuring Sakito and Hitsugi, their two guitarists.  That's another reason I love this band so much, they don't have a keyboardist, they just have drums, bass, a vocalist, and two guitars, which are put to maximum use in almost every single song and create some of the most unique and awesome riffs and solos that I've ever heard.  Anyway, this song's forte is the interplay between hard and soft, and the strong vocals by Yomi only help enhance how fun this song is to listen to.  Even the distortion effect they use doesn't come off as cheesy.

And here... you can see just how much these guys pour into their music.  Hitsugi (my favorite member of the band) breaks down and cries because of how hard they played and how much the crowd loved it, which really shows a lot of character for artists as popular as they are to still be so moved by how well they're recieved and how well they personally play for the audience.  (Hitsugi also looks the coolest out of all of them. :D) At the end, he says something to the effect of "It was long and difficult... thank you so much for coming."

So Nightmare and Nightwish... my favorite bands.

Pin-pon! Pinponpinpon!

Whoa... make that 5 exams this week, total. o_O I had a Psychology exam that I would have missed if I skipped class like I was originally intending to do. :P  Good thing I'm on top of these things...! Ha ha!!! On top!

Phil Ken Sebben aside, I'm glad it's the weekend, because any more exams that I'm not fully prepared for (is there any other kind?) and I'd probably... oh, hell, I'd just kill the construction workers who wake me up every morning.

Look forward to a fun post tomorrow.  I also want to make this blog look half decent...  Hum. :O  And hopefully Satu writes in hers. :p (And feels better. ._.)

Buzz, buzz...

So I woke up this morning to the sweet, sweet sound of a weed-whacker.  I guess it's imperitive that Clarkson maintenance crews weed-whack the base of a tree at 9:00 in the morning, right next to the dormitories.

While I'm at it, let me list three things off the top of my head that Clarkson probably hopes the outside world never finds out about:

  • Our paper, the "Clarkson Integrator", over half of the letters-to-the-editors and editor's corner complain about our school and how we've been conned into paying a ridiculous amount of money for community-college conditions in exchange for a good job after we've endured it all.
  • You'd think that an engineering school and one of the USA's Top Ten Connected Colleges (I paraphrase, though that might be right on) might have great internet connectivity, but alas! Alack!  I cut out every 45 minutes for a good minute to two minutes.  Supposedly we're getting a bandwidth upgrade soon, but what use is a lot of space when they've already restricted Flash video viewing due to it "taking up 25% of the bandwidth"?  What is the rest of the bandwidth being used for!?  I don't think 100% of the bandwidth is EVER being used. EVAR!
  • Our food is supplied (and controlled) by Aramark, which generally supplies prisons.  Ya... we get prison food.  I don't think I need to go any further with this or explain why our food costs inexplicably don't add up, why it's been like six weeks and they still don't have soy, or why our 'great clarkson chefs' make their 'chicken parmesan' by putting chicken patties in a deep-fryer, putting a square slice of cheese on it and spooning out some week-old Ragu.  I'll make this official and define college food as high-school food without the lunch ladies, but with disgruntled, unshowered, disabled people spitting in your food... okay, so maybe I did go a bit further with that.

So now I'll attempt to study calculus, my fourth exam of the week.  Wish me luck. :|
